Location

South Flats is Vancouver’s place dedicated to your creativity

Already a burgeoning tech and arts hub, the creative district along Great Northern Way is home to Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Vancouver Community College, and the Centre for Digital Media. The area has attracted innovative brands like Electronic Arts, Samsung, Lululemon, as well as Nemesis Coffee, Red Truck Brewing, Nature’s Path, and startups that understand that work—and life beyond it—should be collaborative, inspiring, and creative.

Overview

THE INTENTIONAL ECOSYSTEM WHERE COLLISIONS UNLOCK CREATIVITY

South Flats is emerging as a vibrant and walkable new district for the future of Vancouver. This mixed-use area is directly on rapid transit that will connect the western Seawall to East Vancouver’s eclectic neighbourhoods like Commercial Drive, offering a connected epicentre for the city’s flourishing creative economy. In addition to post-secondary institutions, new rental housing, grocery and retail spaces, amenities, and public art, industries like game production, film special effects, fashion, graphics, and other creative fields will thrive here.

GNW - Emily Carr Station

A NEIGHBOURHOOD DESIGNED FOR DAILY INSPIRATION AND COMMUNITY

The Emily Carr Station development will be a doorway to Vancouver’s most creative, walkable, mixed-use community. Already home to the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design & the Centre for Digital Media, this future neighbourhood will offer Vancouverites a unique new place to live, create, and work.

GNW - VCC-Clark Station

THE CENTRAL CONNECTOR

Located next to VCC-Clark Station, this future neighbourhood will be a walkable, connected mixed-use hub that supports innovators of every level. From retail to grocery, childcare, and green space, creative living will be at the heart of this new community between Main Street and Commercial Drive.

PCI will be submitting separate Rezoning Applications for their 1155 6th Avenue and 901 & 1077 Great Northern Way sites this year.

The South Flats Community

THE MAKERS LANE ALIVE WITH AN INDUSTRIOUS SPIRIT

Getting around on foot or by bike is easy at South Flats. New public open spaces, private plazas, maker spaces and other amenities will be connected by a shared walkway that is energized by public art and plenty of green space.

Indigenous Relations

INDIGENOUS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

PCI and Low Tide Properties wanted to know how they could actively contribute to Truth and Reconciliation through their South Flats projects on Great Northern Way in Vancouver. As development lead and to take action and create change within their companies, PCI co-developed an Indigenous Advisory Committee (IAC) to advise and rethink processes that would integrate Coast Salish and Indigenous knowledge. The IAC is committed to providing feedback on policies and processes, and help to incorporate Indigenous knowledge and practices into their work. The creation of the IAC has already created significant positive impacts on their work and community. While there is still continued work to be done, PCI and the IAC are proud of the progress that has been made and is committed to continuing to learn and evolve how their projects can actively contribute towards advancing the collective knowledge and respect for Coast Salish history and culture.
